The Royalton Sustainability Standards are our company-wide framework that helps to structure our environmental, social and employee responsibility initiatives. Our target is to have these standards fully implemented across all owned and managed properties by 2030.

What are the pillars of Royalton Sustainability Standards?

The Royalton Sustainability Standards are built on three pillars:

• Stay Committed (to our people): We want to ensure the teams behind our hospitality are supported through career readiness workshops, employee training, and staff recognition programs.
• Stay Mindful (of our environment): We strive to preserve wildlife, expand solar and renewable energy use, improve energy efficiency and reduce waste.
• Stay Connected (to our communities): Through the Royalton Foundation, we support local development, empower youth, and provide humanitarian aid.

By simply checking in! Sustainability is embedded into our operations, so your stay automatically contributes to the initiatives happening behind the scenes. From food waste tracking, beach clean-ups and textile donations to the ability to choose to opt-out of daily room refreshes in exchange for credits used on resort, it truly is as simple as choosing to stay at one of our 24 resorts.

We are committed to operating responsibly. We have implemented multiple programs including Vero Water (to reduce single-use plastics) and Winnow (an AI-powered food waste management) as well as having installed solar panels, organizing beach-clean ups, turtle releases, and planting trees. Through these initiatives, we are reducing our environmental impact and giving back to the community.

We continue to invest in innovation and technology to support the reduction of single-use items. For example, we’ve already partnered with Vero Water which has eliminated over 10 million plastic bottles and we participate in Nespresso’s pod recycling program.

We are phasing out single-use miniature plastic bottles as well. These will be replaced with products in large, refillable dispensing systems to drastically reduce plastic waste.

Yes. 100% of Royalton Hotels & Resorts are certified and validated by third-party global sustainability organizations, including Green Globe, TraveLife, Cristal International Standards, The Code, & OneLink Global.

Yes! We use the Vero Water purification and bottling system, also used by world-renowned restaurants, other hotels and conference centers. Using a multi-step nano-filtration and distillation process, it converts tap water into fresh, crisp still and sparkling water served in reusable glass bottles.

The glass bottles are provided complimentary in all guest rooms, suites, and dining areas. We have also installed the water dispensing machines throughout the property for quick refills.

This program is currently implemented at some resorts in Mexico with great success and will be expanded to more soon.

Yes! Our solar panel systems generate approximately 2,281 MWh annually across our properties in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

In Mexico, we source 22,523 MWh of electricity from certified renewable sources (verified through iRECs), avoiding over 10,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

These programs will also be expanding to other areas where we operate in.

We use Winnow Solutions, an AI technology that tracks, measures and analyzes food being discarded. We use this data to help the chefs determine what to order and cook.

Our pilot program at Royalton CHIC Cancun showed a 56% reduction in food waste. 

Cristal International Standards is a risk management program developed especially for the tourism industry; which complies with the highest international hygiene standards and the local regulations of the Department of Health.

Established in 1993, the Green Globe organization adheres to ISO 19011 guidelines and employs independent auditors to ensure their rigorous criteria, comprising over 330 compliance indicators, is met.

One Link Global, an organization that combines ecologically green technology with an award-winning Green Chemical Program, has also accredited sustainable industrial cleaning practices at Royalton Resorts. Part of this accreditation includes Electro Chemical Activation (ECA), which allows Blue Diamond Resorts to make their own cleaners and sanitizers on-site, using only tap water, salt, and small doses of electricity.

Travelife evaluates, verifies and communicates the achievements in sustainability, creating a commitment to the organization. Leading initiative in training, management and certification for tourism companies that are on the path of sustainability endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

The Code evaluates, verifies, and communicates the achievements in child protection, creating a commitment to safeguarding vulnerable youth. It is a leading initiative in staff training, operational management, and criteria compliance for tourism companies that are on the path of responsible travel, supported by ECPAT International and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

To provide everyone with the very best vacation experiences, it’s important to respect and protect our destinations. Here are some things to remember during your stay in paradise.

Before arriving, we suggest researching your destination’s customs and traditions to make sure you’re respectful of the local culture. It’s also important to ask before taking pictures of people, traditional events, archeological sites and sacred locations. To support the local economy, we recommend picking up some handmade crafts or products but if you’re considering negotiating prices, please keep in mind that the sales of these products contribute to the livelihoods of many local families.

To avoid contaminating your destination’s natural habitats, please avoid wearing insect repellent, sunscreen and body creams when visiting reefs, cenotes or other bodies of water. It’s also important to refrain from feeding the local wildlife or removing any local flora and fauna from its natural environment.

Please respect local attractions when visiting by disposing of your waste in the appropriate containers, avoid smoking in prohibited areas and avoid touching or damaging the surface of sculptures, pyramids, etc. You can also help protect your destination’s natural resources by conserving water and avoiding the use of disposable plastics.
